I
attended the ACU conference in Washington D.C. on 5-7 thru 5-10 The conference
was very informative and effective. I talked with Senator Norm Coleman and
Michelle Bachman in the airport in MPLS for about 15 minutes. I met with
Senator Amy Klobuchar in her office and she invited me to breakfast the
following morning. I met with all of our representatives aids and passed on the
information on the following bills. * H.R. 980 Collective Bargaining Rights For
Public Safety Officers. We have collective bargaining in Minnesota but other
States do not and are suffering without it. * H.R. 1889 The Private Prison Information Act.
Requires private prison corporations to publicly disclose information about the
operation of their prisons. * H.R. 1890 The Public Safety Act. Ensures that
core correctional services related to the operation of correctional facilities
and the incarceration of inmates are not provided by non-governmental private
entities. Most of our Representatives from Minnesota
voiced their support. I met several Union Leaders from other
States, exchanged a lot of information and had some fun. I would also like to point out that we have
it pretty good in Minnesota compared to the other States across the country. We
will continue to work hard to maintain what we have and also help those who
aren't so fortunate. Thanks
for the opportunity, President
Tim Henderson
